First up is a new top-end quad-core, the 3.6 GHz Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition. The X4 975 BE is simply a 100 MHz speed bump over the already familiar X4 970 BE with no other design changes. The second new processor is a budget quad-core, the 3.2 GHz Phenom II X4 840. AMD Phenom II X6 1100T BE Hex-Core Processor Review | December 7, 2010 We saw back in September AMD released six new CPUs to add to their product mix. Today AMD is showcasing three new processors, including a new flagship model, the AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition. The other two processors are a Phenom II X2 565 Black Edition, and an Athlon II X3 455. All three of these processors are simply 100 MHz speed-bumps over previous top-end models. AMD Phenom II X6 1075T & X4 970 BE & X2 560 BE Processors Review | September 21, 2010 About five months ago AMD made a ground-breaking announcement with their first pair of Phenom II X6 hex-core desktop processors. Today AMD is releasing six new processors to add to their existing mix of Phenom II & Athlon II models. The most notable of these new processors is a mid-range hex-core, the Phenom II X6 1075T, priced almost in between the existing two X6 models. The quad-core Phenom II X4 970 BE is also a welcome addition. ASUS P7P55D-E Deluxe Motherboard Review | September 14, 2010 With the mid-range 1156 socket becoming ever so popular, ASUS is bringing their offering to the table. The ASUS P7P55D-E Deluxe motherboard has a great feature set including USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s. This coupled with their TurboV EVO overclocking package and Hybrid 48 phase power, this board should really shine. ASUS has taken the P55 chipset and added some extras of their own to take this motherboard to the next level. A full spec list for the PlayStation 5 has been revealed first at Digital Foundry. CPU: 8x Zen 2 Cores at 3.5GHz (variable frequency) GPU: 10.28 TFLOPs, 36 CUs at 2.23GHz (variable frequency) GPU Architecture: Custom RDNA 2 Memory/Interface: 16GB GDDR6/256-bit Memory Bandwidth: 448GB/s Internal Storage: Custom 825GB SSD IO Throughput: 5.5GB/s (Raw), Typical 8-9GB/s (Compressed) Expandable Storage: NVMe SSD Slot External Storage: USB HDD Support Optical Drive: 4K UHD Blu-ray Drive The biggest talking point will be the console's 10.28 teraflop GPU. Recent discussion around consoles has centred around teraflops - a measure of how many calculations the GPU can perform per second. Many will be quick to point to the drop off from Xbox Series X's 12 teraflop GPU, although system architect Mark Cerny pointed out how that doesn't tell the full story, even calling it "dangerous" to rely on that count as an indicator of performance. The pitch is that the PS5's custom RDNA 2 GPU is optimised and improved in ways beyond teraflop count, such that it will offer power beyond that expected from it. Internal storage coming in at a non-standard 825GB count points to how this is a custom solid state drive, designed to offer extremely quick load times and do away with the long patch installs familiar to PS4 owners. It can also be expanded using off-the-shelf NVMe SSD drives (inserted into a slot in the console) - however, those drives will need to physically fit the slot. You'll probably want to hold off buying one in advance to find out what Sony recommends. Make sure to check out every detail we've learned in today's PS5 showcase. You can also check out the full Xbox Series X specs here. Source: IGN 0 Comments... Posted By CybrSlydr @ 2:15 PM Thursday March 5th, 2020 AMD Says its Upcoming RDNA 2 and Navi 2x Will Boost Performance per Watt... AMD has been gaining ground in the GPU market over the past year, with 7nm Navi 1x parts launching at the high-end, mainstream, and budget markets. During its Financial Analysts Day 2020, AMD is finally starting to spill the beans for what comes next. It's not called "Big Navi"—at least not officially—but while it will use a new RDNA 2 architecture for the Navi 2x GPUs, the foundation appears to be largely the same as existing Navi 1x / RDNA parts. These new RDNA 2 GPUs will power both next generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft, and more importantly, we're getting new GPUs for the PC as well. What isn't clear is what market segments precisely will get Navi 2x. Certainly there will be an extreme gaming GPU, as AMD discussed going after 4K gaming. Considering the budget and mainstream RX 5500 XT and RX 5600 XT just arrived, however, it's unlikely we'll see them replaced at the end of the year. That is when the new consumer graphics cards are slated to arrive, incidentally—"by the end of this year." That does leave a bit of wiggle room for AMD to potentially launch them sooner, but we expect the new cards to arrive in the fall rather than the spring or summer. Besides the architecture name and explicit launch date of this year, which we've already heard before, details remain thin. Navi 2x / RDNA 2 will bring ray tracing support, variable rate shading support, and the always-nebulous "more." AMD also mentioned performance per Watt improvements, however, which is new. The only hard data AMD provided is that just as RDNA 1 brought a 50% improvement in performance per Watt compared to the previous GCN architecture, RDNA 2 is supposed to bring a 50% improvement in performance per Watt compared to RDNA 1. Posted By CybrSlydr @ 9:09 PM Wednesday March 4th, 2020 The 64 Core Threadripper 3990X CPU Review The recent renaissance of AMD as the performance choice in the high-end x86 market has been great for consumers, enabling a second offering at the top-end of the market. Where Intel offers 28 cores, AMD offers 24 and 32 core parts for the high-end desktop, and to rub salt into the wound, there is now a 64 core offering. This CPU isn’t cheap: the Ryzen Threadripper 3990X costs $3990 at retail, more than any other high-end desktop processor in history, but with it AMD aims to provide the best single socket consumer processor money can buy. We put it through its paces, and while it does obliterate the competition, there are a few issues with having this many cores in a single system. I Want Performance, What Are My Options The new AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X is a 64 core, 128 thread processor designed for the high-end desktop market. The CPU is a variant of AMD’s Enterprise EPYC processor line, offering more frequency and a higher power budget, but fewer memory channels, fewer PCIe, and a lower memory capacity support. The 3990X is at that cusp between consumer and enterprise based on its features and cost, and it’s ultimately going to compete against both. On paper, users who don’t necessarily need all of the 64 core EPYC features might turn to the 3990X, whereas consumers who need more than 32 cores are going to look here as well. We’re going to test against both. The TR3990X is part of the Threadripper 3000 family, and will partner its 32 core and 24 core brethren in being paired with new TRX40 motherboards. Despite the same socket as the previous generation Threadrippers, AMD broke motherboard compatibility this t...
